Sports Tour
Our five designed activity will be related with Lev Vygotsky. He was a soviet psychologist who looked for and discovers that learning procedures are unrelated to its development from the child’s every first day. That is, everything starts from the social context (community, friends, society, school…). His influence in the field of educational psychology resulted from his work in Cultural Mediation and Internalization, Psychology of Play, Thought and Language and Zone of Proximal Development.
In this activity, we would like to apply the ideology of Vygotsky to the children in a more dynamic way. Therefore, our activity will be focused on the concepts of freedom of expression, the stimulation throughout all the senses and the experimentation of the kids by themselves (sensory experiences) like in our Montessori’s activity.
We will divide it into two different steps related with the theory of the zone of proximal development:
The first will consist in an activity without adult/teacher’s help. We would like to organize a sports tour similar to in the activity three related with Maria Montessori. The sports that we have chosen are: football, handball, basketball, volleyball, hockey and rugby. Therefore, the children will be distributed throughout three days and they will be doing all of these sports.
The second one will be developed from the students with the help of the teacher. We choose one of the sports -football- (that they have been practising previously), and we will purpose to the pupils to create a professional team of this sport. Then, we will work with one rule:
- It’s a sport team. So, we will want to strengthen the concept of cooperation. For this reason, we will give them some material to learn it on their own: they should relate a match video that we will show to them with the importance of cooperation. Moreover, we will purpose to the pupils playing football without any goals. This way, they will realize that it’s essential to pass the ball to each other as a team and not only play in an individually way, to value the team spirit (they will learn that personal skills and social experience are united).
With these two activities, we will encourage the development of the personal liberty and the individual with a group, to increase of their self-confidence and also the responsibility of the students as well as we would to work with the four keys which Lev Vygotsky purposed:
-The intersubjective (shared understanding between kids and adult).
-The internalization of the kids potential (external into internal).
-Mediation (kids development higher mental procedures).
-Mainly with the zone of proximal development.

Materials:
In this case, for doing the step one we will need the different sport’s materials such as balls, nets, sticks. The different sports facilities (soccer field, basketball court, rugby field…).
For the step two, we will need the match video- indeed suitable for their age: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jop2I5u2F3U

Methods:
Doing this activity children should do the following procedures:
Practise sports in a freely way (without help)- Observe a video and play football without goals (cooperation)- Make their own reflections from their social context- Interact, debate and exchange opinions about the cooperation concept.
Class distribution
Step 1: they will have to make three different groups (equality). These groups will be passing from one sport to the others in a type of sports tour.
Step 2: the students will be together in the class, they will watch the video together, and then they will go to play this rare football in two different teams. At the end, they will together join again in order to discuss and talk about the issue.
Time and space
This topic will be placed during 4 sessions of PE:
Throughout three sessions (days), the students will be doing each sport alone, without any help (football, handball, basketball, volleyball, hockey and rugby). This way, they will play two different sports for two hours each session of PE. The sports only will be supervised and regarded by the teacher and, if it’s necessary, he/she will take part in the game.
The second step will takes only one session, as they will watch the team video, then they will go to play without goals and learn for themselves and afterwards they will make a reflection together (debate, discuss about the term of cooperation).
Making reference to the spaces, the first step will be developing in completely outdoor places. It’s obviously that the kids will have a lot of possibilities in the school centre due to the fact that we have all kind of sports facilities (tennis courts, gym, swimming pool, track, football field…) and they can move from one place to another freely without adults. The children will have the chance to enjoy and learn in freely way, surrounded by nature and environment (like Summerhill).
The second step will be put into practise inside the class (as we need a projector to watch the video) and the second part will be practised outside as they will have to play in a different way football. Finally, we could debate about the issue outside or inside the class… it will be up to the children decide it (this way we deal with the role of the self-management, autonomy and responsibility).

Evaluation:
The evaluation of this activity will be not only as a group but also individually. That is, the teacher will determinate and observed if all of their students have understood what the concept cooperation means and if they apply it or not so far.
Secondly, it will be important that the pupils know and learn how they can coordinate their actions in order to achieve a group work, taking in care the other members and classmates for making a common aim. It’s meaningful that they can feel the collective happiness for their final attainment and, at the same time, help each other if it’s necessary.
So, it will be a kind of individual skills development mixed with their social interaction and students’ context knowledge.
